Piccadilly Ward saw a packed out meeting on Municipal Socialism and the role of local government tonight. Over sixty people turned up to discuss the vital issues for our city.

Piccadilly Councillor Sam Wheeler spoke alongside Manchester Momentum’s Isaac Rose, Burnage Councillor Ben Clay and Hilary Wainwright of Red Pepper Magazine on the need to build a new consensus around local government in Manchester.

Subjects ranged from the need for greater democratic control, to standing up to developers and the importance for Manchester to lead as England’s second city.

Speaking afterwards Councillor Sam Wheeler said: “Manchester has always been at the forefront of political and economic debate in Britain. As we demand more powers for local government, we must ensure they’re used properly to build a socialism for the 21st century.”
