The Craft and Design Centre has launched their new Community Hub aimed at giving Mancunians a space to work, meet and organise. This was funded through a Neighbourhoods Investment Fund grant, which was granted by the three Piccadilly Labour Cllrs.

The Craft and Design Centre team have been working to engage residents groups, forums and other key stakeholders to alert them to this new space and get more people in the creative space.

Cllr Lyons said “I’m really pleased to see the hard work of Kate, Claire and all the fab team at the Craft Centre come to life in what is a gift to our community. We’re proud to have supported this project, resulting in a space for our residents to organise and work together to make active change. In the city centre, there are so few of these spaces designed specifically for community use, this is whilst we’re seeing huge towers being built around us, city centre Mancunians need a space to organise collectively.”

The Centre is located in what was the Fish Market and is still enriched with heritage several decades on. Cllr Lyons added “The nod to the history with the fish paintings in the children’s play area is fantastic, the work the team has done is incredibly comprehensive and well thought out, I couldn’t give them a warmer thanks. Adding provision in for small children is to enjoy crafts is really great”.

The Community hub is fitted with electric heaters, charging points, flexible styled seating, a nearby bookable room and a quality coffee shop run by the Centre’s team. It is perfect for working solo or in a group.
