Piccadilly Labour Councillors fought for the funds to close the square back in 2019/ 2020

Piccadilly Labour Councillors have been fighting to see greater pedestrianisation in the city centre, whilst ensuring accessibility to to those who need it, since 2018. Since they were elected, more streets have been closed to through traffic in the aim to create better walking and cycling routes, whilst encouraging local businesses to utilise some space for tables and chairs – creating new jobs and fostering our city centre community.

Despite this, bus companies have resulted in plans for Stevenson Square to be limited, reducing the space to see 75% pedestrianisation, instead of the full 100% as envisioned by the Piccadilly Labour Councillors. This has meant that plans for the square will be able to go ahead and the funds they lobbied for and then secured will still be usable to implement the vast majority of the scheme. We’d urge you to fill out our consultation below on what you’d like to see next for the square.
